As per the system introduced by the Punjab government, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been authorized to test the quality of fuel. Now, those found selling substandard fuel will face heavy fines and penalties under the Punjab Environmental Protection Act of 1997.
The provincial government has assigned Director General EPA, Dr. Imran Hameed Sheikh, the responsibility to ensure fuel quality across the province, aiming to protect the public from air pollution.
This government measure is expected to not only reduce vehicle emissions but also help control smog, respiratory illnesses, and environmental degradation.
Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb stated that the use of substandard fuel is a major cause of environmental pollution and smog. The government is striving to provide clean air to citizens to help prevent life-threatening diseases.
