Environmental Pollution and Smog Control in Punjab: Major Step Forward

Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has taken another significant initiative to combat environmental pollution, smog, and deadly respiratory diseases in the province. Under this move, a new strict monitoring system has been implemented to prevent the sale of substandard petrol and diesel across Punjab.

As per the system introduced by the Punjab government, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been authorized to test the quality of fuel. Now, those found selling substandard fuel will face heavy fines and penalties under the Punjab Environmental Protection Act of 1997.

The provincial government has assigned Director General EPA, Dr. Imran Hameed Sheikh, the responsibility to ensure fuel quality across the province, aiming to protect the public from air pollution.

This government measure is expected to not only reduce vehicle emissions but also help control smog, respiratory illnesses, and environmental degradation.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb stated that the use of substandard fuel is a major cause of environmental pollution and smog. The government is striving to provide clean air to citizens to help prevent life-threatening diseases.
