Controversial Tweet: PTI Leadership Challenges FIA Summons Notice

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have challenged the summons notice issued by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) regarding a controversial tweet in the Islamabad High Court.

According to private channel Dawn News, PTI Chairman Gohar Khan and Information Secretary Rauf Hassan have filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, making the Interior Secretary, the complainant Deputy Director of the FIA, and the investigating officer parties to the case.

The petition argues that the tweet from former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Twitter account aimed to promote unity for Pakistan and encourage a national dialogue to pull the country out of crisis.

The petitioners claim that the tweet from the PTI founder's Twitter account was misrepresented by political opponents, leading to the activation of government machinery and a complaint being lodged by the Deputy Director of the FIA. The complaint alleges that the tweet incited rebellion among the armed forces, and the Deputy Director’s complaint is seen as a judgment without a trial.

The petition states that on May 31, the petitioners were issued summons notices by the investigating officer. The purpose of the complaint and summons notices is to harass the petitioners.

They have requested the court to annul the complaint and summons notices and to restrain the parties from arresting or harassing the petitioners until the case is heard.

It is noteworthy that on June 1, the FIA issued notices to three more PTI leaders over the uploading of a controversial video from Imran Khan's X account.

The notice stated that the provocation could incite the public to take the law into their own hands.

It should be remembered that the FIA started investigating the matter of sharing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's video from Imran Khan's X account, questioning who, why, and how the video was shared from the imprisoned PTI founder’s account, while the former Prime Minister refused to meet the FIA team regarding the matter.

On May 26, Imran Khan’s official account shared a video comparing the current political situation to the Fall of Dhaka, attributing a statement to him: "Every Pakistani should read the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report to know who the real traitor was – General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman."

The video referred to alleged atrocities by the Pakistani army, arguing that the former military dictator was responsible for the country's breakup during the civil war.

The video also juxtaposed images of the current civilian and military leadership, accusing them of stealing the party's mandate in the general elections. Barrister Gohar previously defended the post, insisting that it made a political point and did not target the military.
