Microsoft Temporarily Block Windows 11 24H2 Update for Some Users

Microsoft has blocked the Windows 11 24H2 update due to incompatibility issues with the Voicemeeter app. VB-Audio Software is working to fix the compatibility of its driver, but no clear timeline has been provided.

Users can still update to 24H2 through alternative methods, but they may face issues with the Voicemeeter app. Windows 11 version 24H2 is this year's major feature update for Windows users. Like previous major releases, the latest update includes several known issues that you should be aware of before installing it on your PC. Although Microsoft is working hard to fix these, a new issue has recently been discovered, and it is severe enough that Microsoft had to block the Windows 11 24H2 update.

The culprit is an application called Voicemeeter, which forced Microsoft to apply a "compatibility hold" on Windows 11 PCs using this application. Simply put, PCs with the Voicemeeter app installed will currently not be updated to Windows 11, version 24H2. Remember, this is a temporary measure.

But why did Microsoft have to block the Windows 11 24H2 update due to an app? As Microsoft explained on its Learn website, the Voicemeeter driver is incompatible with Windows 11 24H2's memory manager, resulting in a BSOD error message when using the app. So, Microsoft isn't to blame here. Fortunately, VB-Audio Software, the company behind the Voicemeeter app, has started working on a resolution, but there is no clarity on how many days the team will take to fix the driver compatibility issue.

You can still update Windows 11 with the Voicemeeter app to 24H2, but is it advisable to do so at the moment?

If you have the Voicemeeter app installed on your computer, you won't receive the 24H2 update through the Settings app under Windows Update. However, not everyone likes to wait for Microsoft to make the update available on their PC. If you belong to this group, you can install the latest Windows 11 feature update using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or Media Creation Tool, even if you have the Voicemeeter app installed.

However, just because you can do something doesn't mean it will yield the best results. This is especially true for Voicemeeter users. If you are one, upgrading your computer to 24H2 by choosing any alternative route will not give you the best Windows 11 experience. Most importantly, you won't be able to use the Voicemeeter app due to the BSOD issue. This is why Microsoft recommends not upgrading your computer to the latest Windows 11 update until the issue is resolved.
