Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has stated that if deaths due to heatstroke in Karachi are confirmed, a lawsuit will be filed against K-Electric.
Speaking to the media outside the Sindh Assembly, Nasir Hussain mentioned that important decisions have been made regarding load shedding in HESCO and SEPCO areas. Areas consuming between 100 to 200 units will not experience load shedding.
He further said that areas experiencing higher temperatures should be made load shedding-free.
He announced that if any deaths occur due to heatstroke in Karachi, an investigation will be conducted, and a lawsuit will be filed against K-Electric.
Nasir Hussain Shah also mentioned that complaints of overbilling will be addressed.
Total Deaths Due to Heatstroke in Karachi Reach 20
The heat in Karachi is claiming lives, with a total of 212 cases of heatstroke reported yesterday. Three individuals succumbed to heatstroke, bringing the total number of deaths to 20.
The hot weather in Karachi has become a death warrant for its residents, with 20 people having died due to the heat so far this month.
According to the Sindh Health Department, the total number of deaths due to heatstroke this year has reached 20.
There is a discrepancy between the figures reported by the Health Department and public hospitals. Jinnah Hospital Karachi reported 14 heatstroke patients yesterday, out of which three died, bringing the total number of deaths close to 20.
Civil Hospital Karachi reported 15 deaths due to heatstroke, and Qatar Hospital reported one death.
The Sindh Health Department reported one death at Jinnah Hospital yesterday, while Jinnah Hospital administration reported three deaths.
212 Cases of Heatstroke Reported in Karachi Today
In the past 24 hours, a total of 212 cases of heatstroke have been reported in Karachi.
According to the statistics released by the Health Department from various hospitals in Karachi yesterday, the highest number of heatstroke cases was reported in the Central District, with 98 cases.
The Eastern District reported six cases, Korangi reported 18, and Malir reported 14 cases. Additionally, the Southern District reported 40 cases, and the Western District reported 30 cases. Two hundred patients were discharged after receiving initial medical treatment.
Risk of Deaths Due to Heatstroke in Densely Populated Areas of Karachi
The risk of deaths due to heatstroke has increased in densely populated areas of Karachi due to severe heat. Twelve bodies were brought to New Karachi Hospital in the past nine hours, all of whom were over 35 years old.
According to Dr. Hussain, MS New Karachi, the bodies were brought by ambulances from welfare organizations. All the deaths could be due to heatstroke. After examining the bodies, they were referred to other nearby teaching hospitals. The sight of multiple bodies in ambulances caused fear among other patients at the hospital.
The PMA has demanded that load shedding be avoided in the current heatwave.
PMA Secretary General Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Shoro expressed concerns about the rising deaths due to the extreme heat.
