Apple Brings Lossless and Ultra-Low Latency Audio to AirPods Max

On Monday, Apple announced that it is introducing lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio to AirPods Max when using a USB-C cable.

With this upcoming update, AirPods Max will unlock 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio, preserving the original recording quality. According to Apple, lossless audio will also extend to personalized spatial audio, offering a "more precise, uncompressed, and immersive listening experience."

Users will be able to enjoy over 100 million songs in lossless audio through Apple Music.

As for ultra-low latency audio, Apple states that AirPods Max will become more suitable for music production. By using a USB-C cable, users can create and mix personalized spatial audio with head tracking, ensuring that musicians can record and mix music without compromising audio quality.

Gamers will also benefit from ultra-low latency audio, as it will reduce lag when using AirPods Max.

Lossless and ultra-low latency audio will be available as a free firmware update for USB-C AirPods Max in April, alongside iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4.

These new features will be exclusive to the USB-C version of AirPods Max and will not be available for the Lightning version of the headphones.
