Where Are the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Updates?

You might be wondering why your Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, or Pixel 6a hasn’t received the October update — or why it skipped the July one entirely, only to get a September build later. Honestly, we’re wondering the same thing. Here’s everything we currently know about the Pixel 6 update situation.

Yesterday, Google rolled out the October 2025 Pixel update for its still-supported devices — but noticeably left out the Pixel 6 lineup. In the official community post announcing the release, Google listed all supported models from the Pixel 7 through the Pixel 10 Pro XL, with no mention of the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, or 6a. As usual, the post stated that “all supported Pixel devices running Android 16 will begin receiving these updates starting today.”

However, Google’s factory image page — where firmware builds appear before public rollout — still shows no sign of Pixel 6-series builds. And since these devices are officially supported until 2026, that statement isn’t entirely accurate.

This isn’t the first time Google has quietly paused updates for the Pixel 6 series.
For instance, in July, Google pushed out a routine monthly security patch but excluded the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. The Pixel 6a got its update, but the other models never received one — not even later in the month. Then in August, Google did update the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, but only with June’s old build, while the 6a got a minor July bump. None of the devices received an August build at all.

Strange, right?

In September, when Android 16 QPR1 launched, Google finally pushed updates to all Pixel devices again — including the Pixel 6 series — bringing everyone back in sync. But here we are in October, and once again, the entire Pixel 6 lineup has been left out. That might not be permanent, though; Google could still drop the builds later this month.

To clarify, Google originally planned to end updates for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro with the stable release of Android 15 in late 2024. However, in a quiet change to its Pixel Support page, Google extended support by two more years, also including the Pixel 7 and the original Pixel Fold.

That said, nowhere in Google’s documentation does it commit to monthly updates for these extended-support devices. The only official statement reads that Pixel 6 devices will receive “up to 5 years of updates from the date the device first became available on the Google Store in the U.S.” It further clarifies that this includes five years of OS and security updates, plus new or enhanced features through Pixel Feature Drops — but again, there’s no explicit monthly commitment.

So technically, Google is free to release updates whenever it sees fit throughout the year.
Still, after years of consistent monthly rollouts, this shift in rhythm feels unusual — and users deserve to know if that cadence has changed.

We’ve reached out to Google for clarification on whether there’s a change in the update schedule that Pixel 6 owners should be aware of. We’ll share any response we receive.

Update:
Google has responded with the following statement:

“Pixel phones will remain secure throughout their entire support window, which can be found here.
Your device will stay private and protected through Pixel-specific patches, Google Play system updates, and Android Security Bulletin fixes. You can also expect your phone to continue improving over time through regular Pixel Drops and OS updates throughout its full support period.”

That’s… not exactly the answer we were hoping for. Google didn’t confirm whether the monthly schedule is changing — only that updates will continue for the remainder of the devices’ lifespan. So for now, it seems like this might just be a month-to-month mystery as the Pixel 6 series slowly approaches end of life.
