Under the monsoon system, clouds burst in various parts of the city on Wednesday night, and continuous rain continued for several hours in many areas, including the Old City area. According to the Meteorological Department, rain with thunder is expected in the city between August 3 and August 5.
As a result of the recent monsoon system, it started raining in various parts of the city between Wednesday and Thursday night. During this period, light to moderate rain occurred in some places, while heavy rain was recorded in others.
Moderate rain that started around midnight in many areas of the Old City area continued till morning, during which rainwater accumulated in several low-lying areas, including Guru Mandir (opposite Gul Raana Center) and Kashmir Road. According to the statistics released by the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall was recorded in DHA Phase 2 at 13 mm, 11.1 mm at Old Airport, 11 mm in Quaidabad, 6.2 mm in Surjani, 6 mm at PAF Faisal Base, 5.5 mm in Keamari, 5.3 mm in Gadap Town, and 4 mm at Jinnah Terminal.
Similarly, Korangi recorded 3.2 mm, Hassan Square 3 mm, Met Office (University Road) 2.5 mm, Orangi Town 2 mm, Gulshan-e-Maymar and Nazimabad 1.2 mm, and Saddar recorded 1 mm of rain.
On Thursday, after several days, unusually strong southwest winds from the sea blew in the city, recording a speed of 31 kilometers per hour. The sky remained completely cloudy throughout the day, and the sun was absent, making the weather generally pleasant.
According to the alert issued by the Meteorological Department regarding the new monsoon system, a powerful monsoon wind system will affect Sindh from Rajasthan (India) and the Arabian Sea from today (August 2), under which rain with thunder is expected in Karachi between August 3 and 5.
During this period, rain with thunder is also expected in Tharparkar, Badin, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Tando Allahyar. Meanwhile, starting today, rain with strong winds and thunder is expected in rural Sindh, including Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Kashmore, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, and between August 3 and 6 in Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Naushahro Feroze, Ghotki, Sukkur, and others.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in the city on Thursday decreased by several degrees to 31.6 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day, while the humidity level was 82%.
