Seven-Day Anti-Polio Campaign in Sindh Starting December 16

Sindh is gearing up for a significant public health initiative. A seven-day anti-polio campaign will kick off on December 16, aiming to vaccinate over 10.6 million children across the province.

High-Level Meeting Finalizes Preparations

A high-level meeting, chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, saw top officials, including Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon and Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, finalize the campaign's logistics. Health Secretary Rehan Iqbal Baloch, Additional IG Karachi, representatives from WHO, UNICEF, and Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Coordinator Irshad Ali Sodhar also attended. Divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners joined via video link.

Extensive Participation and Deployment

During the campaign, 80,000 frontline workers will be mobilized. Polio teams will be stationed at all bus terminals to ensure that traveling children receive vaccinations. Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah emphasized the importance of vaccinating every child to eradicate polio and urged deputy commissioners to encourage parental cooperation.

Security Measures

IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon assured that over 24,000 police personnel would be deployed to ensure the safety of polio workers throughout the campaign. Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi discussed challenges like hesitant parents and migrant populations, highlighting ongoing efforts to address these issues.

Training and Mapping

EOC Coordinator Irshad Ali Sodhar informed that polio workers' training has been completed and that mapping of Karachi's bus terminals, including Sohrab Goth, is underway. Eighteen polio teams will be stationed at Sohrab Goth to vaccinate children passing through.

Government's Commitment

Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah reiterated the government's commitment to the campaign, describing it as a crucial step for the safety and future of Sindh's children. He appealed to the public to cooperate with polio teams to protect children from this crippling disease.
