Another polio case has been reported in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the total number of cases reported in 2024 to 72.
According to a statement issued by the Anti-Polio Program, samples were collected from a girl residing in Dera Ismail Khan on December 31. Test results confirmed that she had contracted polio.
The statement further mentioned that the Type 1 poliovirus was detected in the girl. With this latest case, the total number of polio cases reported in Dera Ismail Khan during the past year has reached 11.
Out of the total polio cases reported in Pakistan so far, 27 were from Balochistan, 22 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21 from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
