Champions Trophy: ICC Takes Firm Stand on India's Request

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has responded firmly to India's request to remove the host country's name from the logo used on team kits for this year's Champions Trophy, set to be played in Pakistan. The ICC clarified that the word "Pakistan" will remain on the Indian team's jersey.

ICC's Stance

Sources within the ICC have stated unequivocally that all participating teams in the Champions Trophy are required to display the tournament logo, including the host country's name, on their jerseys.

  • The ICC warned that any team failing to comply with this regulation will face strict action.

Response to India's Objection

The ICC issued this clarification following reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had objected to having "Pakistan" (the host country's name) printed on their team's jerseys for the tournament.

  • Reports claimed that the BCCI had decided not to include Pakistan's name on the Indian team jerseys for the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Background

Previously, the BCCI cited security concerns to refuse to play in Pakistan and pushed for the tournament to be shifted to a hybrid model, which was eventually accepted by the ICC. In response, Pakistan also demanded that the hybrid model be applied to future events if India's team continues to avoid playing in Pakistan.

Similar Past Incidents

Last year, during the Asia Cup, India attempted to create a similar controversy. However, the Asian Cricket Council approved the removal of the host country's name from the tournament logo.

The ICC’s firm stance on the matter reinforces the regulations governing international tournaments and sets a precedent for all participating teams to adhere to established guidelines.
