Google TV Removes Several Free Channels

Google TV Removes Several Free Channels

Google TV has built an impressive collection of free streaming channels that don’t require an account or downloads to watch. However, the platform has recently removed several channels from its lineup.

After reaching a peak of 171 channels by the end of 2024, Google TV’s Free Play section has now dropped 9 channels, bringing the total down to 162.

Unusual Large-Scale Removal

Since Google began expanding its Free Play library, channel removals have been extremely rare. In previous cases, the company had only removed one or two channels at a time. This latest action, removing nine channels simultaneously, marks the largest cleanup in Free Play’s history.

Interestingly, none of the removed channels were holiday-themed additions from late 2024—instead, they were part of an earlier batch added in September 2024.

Channels Removed:

📺 Hall TV
🐶 Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan
🕊 The Dove Channel
😂 Comedy Dynamics
🎨 Bob Ross Channel
🎭 Shades of Black
🌈 OUTtv Proud
🥊 DAZN Ringside
DAZN Women’s Football

Possible Contract Issues?

Most of these channels were introduced in 2024, and many were added in the same batch in September, suggesting that a licensing agreement with Google may have fallen through.

Media company Cinedigm, which operates several of these channels, including The Dove Channel, Dog Whisperer, and Bob Ross Channel, might have been affected. Though Google doesn’t publicly list who operates which channels, Cinedigm has previously been linked to Shades of Black, Comedy Dynamics, and others.

Will These Channels Return?

It’s unclear whether any of these channels will be reinstated in the future.
