FIA Granted Permission to Interrogate Accused Armaghan in Money Laundering Case

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi has granted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) permission to interrogate the prime suspect in the Mustafa Aamir murder case, Armaghan, regarding money laundering while he is in jail.

It is worth mentioning that the FIA had been seeking interrogation permission for the past two days. The agency approached the ATC, requesting authorization to question Armaghan about money laundering linked to a call center.

The court approved the FIA's request, allowing interrogation within the jail.

The court stated that there was no objection to questioning Armaghan in jail and permitted the FIA to conduct the interrogation for nine days.

Delivering its verdict today, the court directed the FIA to complete the interrogation and submit a report by April 3.

Following the court orders, the FIA has commenced the investigation, focusing on financial corruption and other aspects of the case.

Case Background

On February 14, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CIA Muqaddas Haider revealed in a press conference that Mustafa Aamir went missing from the Defense area on January 6. His mother filed a missing person report the following day.

On January 25, after Mustafa’s mother received a ransom call demanding Rs. 20 million from an American number, kidnapping-for-ransom charges were added to the case, which was then transferred to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC).

Later, the AVCC raided the suspect’s residence in Defense on February 9. However, the suspect opened fire on the police, injuring AVCC DSP Ahsan Zulfiqar and his security guard.

After several hours of effort, the police arrested the suspect. When presented in court for physical remand, the judge instead sent him to judicial custody in jail, leading the Sindh Police to file an appeal in the High Court.

During the initial interrogation, Armaghan claimed he had murdered Mustafa Aamir and dumped his body in Malir. However, he later retracted his statement. Through joint efforts by the AVCC, the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), and a federal intelligence agency, Armaghan’s friend Shiraz was arrested. Shiraz confessed that Armaghan, with his assistance, had tortured and murdered Mustafa Aamir at home on January 6, then transported his body to Hub in his car and set it on fire.

Following Shiraz’s confession, the police recovered Mustafa’s burnt car from Hub. Meanwhile, Hub Police had already discovered the victim’s body and handed it over to a charity organization for burial. After the body was found, murder charges were added to the case.

According to investigators, Hub Police took DNA samples before handing the body over to Edhi. The second arrested suspect, Shiraz, worked for Armaghan and was involved in planning both the murder and the disposal of the body.

Karachi Police stated that Mustafa’s original mobile phone has not yet been recovered. Further investigation will be conducted to obtain details regarding the girl involved, the murder weapon, and the mobile phone.

Later, police requested exhumation of the body for post-mortem from the Judicial Magistrate's court, which was approved yesterday.

Meanwhile, on February 15, an investigation report revealed that the conflict between Mustafa and Armaghan was over a girl who had left the country on January 12. Efforts are being made to contact her through Interpol.

According to investigators, Mustafa and Armaghan were friends, but their dispute over the girl began on New Year's Eve. After a heated argument, Armaghan had threatened to kill both Mustafa and the girl.

Police stated that Armaghan summoned Mustafa on January 6 and tortured him. The girl left the country on January 12, and attempts are being made to contact her through Interpol, as her statement is crucial to the case.
