Karachi: Motorcyclist killed in collision with water tanker at Defence Mor

A motorcyclist lost his life after being hit by a water tanker near Defence Mor in Karachi. Meanwhile, in a high-speed driving case on Shahrah-e-Faisal, the dumper truck driver who surrendered has been granted bail. However, due to his delayed surrender, police have seized more than 150 heavy vehicles.

The deceased's body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital after the fatal accident involving a water tanker near Defence Mor.

On the other hand, the dumper truck driver who surrendered in the viral high-speed video case on Shahrah-e-Faisal was presented before the Judicial Magistrate East in Karachi.

The investigation officer informed the court that the arrested driver, Ata-ur-Rehman, was involved in violating traffic laws and had been on the run. When the traffic police signaled him to stop, he sped off recklessly, posing a threat to human lives and risking a major accident.

The investigating officer stated that the accused violated the law and needs to be further investigated, including verifying his driving license, and requested a 14-day remand.

The driver claimed that the traffic police threatened to beat him, which scared him and led to his reckless driving.

The driver’s lawyer argued that the incident is bailable and requested bail, which the court granted. A case had been registered against the driver at the Shahrah-e-Faisal police station the previous day.

On the other hand, the delay in the absconding dumper driver’s surrender has proven costly for vehicle owners. Even after the driver surrendered in the Shahrah-e-Faisal case, transporters are struggling to get their seized vehicles released from across the city.

Although the traffic police halted the crackdown on heavy vehicles following the driver’s surrender, most of the seized vehicles have yet to be released. This has led to congestion of vehicle owners and drivers at the traffic yard in Baldia Town.

Transporters have alleged that the traffic police also impounded vehicles that had complete documents and fitness certificates, and they are now facing difficulties in getting them released.
