Major Anti-Corruption Operation in Quetta Food Department Over Massive Corruption Scandal

The Anti-Corruption Establishment Balochistan has launched a major operation in the Quetta Food Department following a serious case involving wheat theft, embezzlement, and financial irregularities. As a result, Abdul Mateen, Allahuddin, and Aslam Shah have been arrested, while raids are being conducted at various locations to apprehend other involved officials.

This action was carried out under the directives of Director General of the Anti-Corruption Establishment Balochistan, Abdul Waheed Kakar. The operation began when City Commissioner Abdullah and Assistant Commissioner Saddar Hamza Anjum filed a complaint stating that sacks of wheat were being transported via various trucks to different flour mills and districts without any legal documentation.

Initial investigations revealed that the wheat sacks were loaded from the Spiny Road and White Road warehouses of the Food Department.

When truck drivers were asked to provide legal challans and documentation, they failed to present any proof. The concerned officials were then summoned, but they too could not offer any explanation or legal documentation.

During an inspection of the warehouse records, it was discovered that wheat sacks were removed without proper entry, and the quantity listed in the stock register did not match the actual count.

According to records, 31,929 sacks were registered, while the actual count showed 43,975 sacks—clear evidence of corruption and embezzlement. The investigation also revealed that Aslam Shah attempted to cover up the embezzlement by depositing money into the Food Department’s account under the names of flour mills at subsidized rates, in an attempt to give the corruption a legal appearance.

The Pakistan Flour Mills Association has also raised objections to this move. According to the ongoing investigation, 2,018 wheat sacks were stolen, causing a loss of approximately 23 million rupees to the government.

Officials and staff found involved include Suleman Kakar (Director Admin), Deputy Director Quetta Zone, Aslam Shah (Assistant Director), in-charge of the White Road warehouse, Allahuddin and Abdul Mateen (both in charge of the Spiny Road warehouse), and Saleem (Supervisor, White Road warehouse).

A case has been registered against the accused, and the investigation is ongoing. Raids are also underway to arrest other absconding suspects.
