Android 16 QPR1 ‘No Data Wipe’ OTA Now Rolling Out to Pixel Devices

Android 16 QPR1 ‘No Data Wipe’ OTA Now Rolling Out to Pixel Devices

Just a week after Android 16 QPR1 became stable, Google has started rolling out a “no data wipe” over-the-air (OTA) update for Beta 3.1 testers.

This update allows users to exit the Android Beta Program without triggering a full data reset — meaning you can leave the beta channel without losing your apps, settings, and files.

To check, head to Settings > System > Software Updates > System Updates and make sure the message reads: “Android Beta Exit — No Data Wipe.” The update is under 100 MB in size and also includes the September 2025 security patch.

After Beta 3.1, users who didn’t want to jump into QPR2 Beta 1 were able to unenroll their devices through google.com/android/beta.

We’re currently seeing the OTA show up on Pixel Tablet units, though not yet on the Pixel 8a or 9a. There are a few scattered reports of it appearing on phones, but it’s not widely available at the moment. Typically, Google pushes such updates to all supported devices simultaneously, but this rollout seems gated — similar to how the major Android 16 → 16 QPR1 update was distributed.

Following the rollout, Google has also confirmed a “custom update” option is available. The full list of fixes and improvements can be found [here].
