Google, Gmail, and Other Services Face Partial Outage, Login Failures Reported

A noticeable partial outage has hit several Google apps and services — including Gmail — with the main culprit appearing to be widespread login issues.

Reports of disruptions began surfacing shortly before 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT), with users flagging problems across Gmail, Google Workspace apps, and other services. Downdetector data showed a sharp spike in user-reported outages affecting Google, Gmail, Workspace, Drive, Cloud, Classroom, and Meet.

Google has not yet confirmed the outage on its Workspace or Cloud status dashboards, but user reports consistently point to authentication failures. In our own tests, Google services were still functioning, though we encountered errors when attempting to sign into accounts. A team member based in the UK noted that services were running unusually slow.

Failed login attempts were returning “502” error pages, suggesting that the issue was also affecting third-party sites relying on Google login.

As of publication, outage reports on Downdetector were beginning to decline, indicating that the problem may already be resolving for most users.
