Previously available only through Gmail’s client-side encryption (CSE), the feature now allows users to send encrypted emails to any address. Recipients simply follow a decryption process to view the message content. (It’s worth noting that subject lines and recipient addresses are not encrypted.)
This new capability is designed to eliminate the traditional complexity of secure email solutions. It requires minimal setup or maintenance from IT teams or end users, while still maintaining strong data sovereignty, privacy, and security controls.
In simpler terms, Gmail’s new approach aims to make encrypted communication as seamless as sending a regular email — without sacrificing protection.
According to Google, the feature began rolling out earlier this week and should reach all users within 15 days.
