Iddat Case: Hearing Continues on Appeals Against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi's Sentence |
District and Sessions Judge Shah Rukh Arjmand is hearing appeals against the sentence. Bushra Bibi's lawyer, Usman Riaz Gill, appeared before the court.

Judge Shah Rukh Arjmand remarked that one o'clock should not mean one o'clock, today it is mandatory to appear in court, Usman Gil said that it is up to the court, our appeal for suspension of sentence is pending, the evidence has been completed, the court is requested to decide on the suspension of sentence request.
Upon this, Judge Shah Rukh Arjmand said that it is written in the last order that if Rizwan Abbasi does not appear, I will decide on the request for suspension of sentence.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing in the case until one o'clock.
After the break in the Islamabad District and Sessions Courts, during the hearing on the appeals against the sentence in the Iddat case, lawyer Raja Rizwan Abbasi Advocate began presenting his evidence.
Lawyer Rizwan Abbasi said that I want to present evidence in court on some legal points, I want to present evidence before filing a complaint and after withdrawing the complaint, I want to discuss legal points regarding the jurisdiction of the case, I want to discuss the delay in filing the complaint, and I will also present evidence on the status of marriage during Iddat , I will also present evidence of irrelevance to the allegations.
He said that a person named Muhammad Hanif had filed a complaint before this during the Iddat, Muhammad Hanif withdrew the complaint on technical grounds before the individual crime was returned, the cases of the Special Judge Central are different, the FIRs are different, the inspection is the first step in any case, issuing notices and returning individual crimes is called the inquiry stage, the court has the authority to issue notices to any relevant person connected to the case.
Lawyer Rizwan Abbasi further said that the complaint filed by Muhammad Hanif was withdrawn before the individual crime was returned, which is not related to Maneka's complaint.
It should be remembered that on May 14, 2023, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court had initiated the hearing on appeals filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi against the sentences in the Iddat case to determine what the law says about verbal or written divorce?
On the previous hearing, Bushra Bibi's former husband Khawar Manika had told the court that PTI founder, Bushra Bibi's marriage was fraudulent, which was proven.
It should be noted that on April 9, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court had postponed the hearing on the appeals filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi against the sentences in the Iddat case until April 15, while Judge Shah Rukh Arjmand had remarked that if the complainant's lawyer Rizwan Abbasi does not appear in the next hearing, the decision will be announced.
Background:
On November 25, 2023, Bushra Bibi's former husband Khawar Manika approached the Islamabad Sessions Judge Qudratullah's court and filed a case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi for the annulment of their marriage during 'iddat'.
The petition stated that after the matter of marriage during 'iddat' came to light, both parties remarried in February 2018 through Mufti Saeed.
Khawar Manika requested that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be summoned and given strict punishment under the constitution and law.
During the hearing scheduled for November 28, Nikah Khawan Mufti Saeed and witness Awn Chaudhry recorded their statements.
During the hearing scheduled for December 5, Khawar Manika's domestic servant and witness in the case, Muhammad Latif, testified.
On December 11, the court declared the case of the invalid marriage admissible for hearing.
On January 2, 2024, the local court in Islamabad set January 10 as the date for issuing a verdict on the commission of the crime in the case of the invalid marriage.
However, neither on January 10 nor on January 11, could the offense be established, after which the hearing was adjourned.
On January 15, Bushra Bibi and on January 18, Imran Khan appealed against the case of the invalid marriage to the Islamabad High Court.
However, on January 16, the offense in the case of the invalid marriage was established against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
On January 31, the Islamabad High Court rejected the requests to withdraw the case filed against Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, and Bushra Bibi during the 'iddat' period.
On February 2, after a lengthy hearing of 14 hours, a decision was made against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the case of the invalid marriage.
