Signing of 23 MoUs and Agreements to Upgrade CPEC Between Pakistan and China

Pakistan and China have signed 23 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements, alongside upgrading the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

According to Private Media Channel Dawn News, a delegation-level meeting was held between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed all aspects of bilateral relations and also talked about regional and global developments of mutual interest. They expressed satisfaction that the Pakistan-China Strategic Cooperative Partnership, based on mutual trust and shared principles, is growing stronger over time.

Premier Li Qiang congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Pakistan's election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Both leaders reiterated unwavering support for each other on key issues and committed to the high-quality development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

They emphasized the need for the timely completion of all ongoing projects, with special focus on industry, agricultural modernization, science and technology, and special economic zones for mutual benefit and Pakistan's socio-economic development.

An agreement was reached to further enhance cooperation by upgrading CPEC. Both parties discussed the importance of the city of Gwadar as a vital pillar of CPEC and agreed on the timely completion of all related infrastructure projects to transform Gwadar into a regional economic hub.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Chinese counterpart also expressed their firm resolve against the opponents of CPEC. Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals and projects in Pakistan.

Both sides agreed to maintain high-level exchanges, which include strengthening institutional links at all levels and in all areas of bilateral cooperation.

Pakistan and China will continue close consultations on issues of regional and global importance and at multilateral forums, particularly during Pakistan’s two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

After the delegation-level talks, a signing ceremony for the MoUs took place, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Premier Li Qiang.

In the ceremony, 23 MoUs and agreements were signed to further strengthen cooperation in various fields of mutual interest, including television, film, transport infrastructure, industry, energy, agriculture, health, socio-economic development, and more.

Later, Chinese Premier Li Qiang remarked that the friendship between the two nations has stood the test of time, and China seeks a strong economic partnership with Pakistan.

Premier Li Qiang emphasized that China desires robust economic relations with Pakistan.
