A gang of five robbers in Lahore’s Defense area used a special device to block Bluetooth, mobile phones, GPS, and Wi-Fi signals, allowing them to loot gold jewelry and cash worth approximately 15.5 million rupees from a house.
The five-member gang managed to escape via the motorway, evading multiple police stations. Special police teams waited at exit points in Islamabad and Sargodha, but the criminals escaped through the Faisalabad interchange.
Despite deploying several police teams across different cities in the province, authorities have been unable to trace or arrest the dangerous gang.
Reportedly, this gang has robbed four houses within the jurisdiction of Defense A and Defense C police stations in the last 20 days.
Sources revealed that the five masked robbers brought along a special device that blocked all mobile phone services within a 100-meter radius of the targeted house, preventing the family from contacting the police or seeking help.
The house, located in FF Block, DHA Phase 4, is owned by retired SP Rana Azim, who had rented it to the affected family.
Mubashir Ahmed, the head of the victim family, informed the police that five armed robbers forcibly entered their home at midnight on Tuesday, October 22. Three of the robbers carried rifles, while the other two wielded pistols.
He further stated that the robbers held the family hostage in a room and looted 35 tolas of gold, including gold bangles and a locket set worth over 8.75 million rupees, 12 branded watches worth 1.3 million rupees, and 3.5 million rupees in cash. The total value of the stolen items exceeded 15.5 million rupees.
Mubashir Ahmed claimed that one of the robbers appeared to be between 65 and 70 years old, while another seemed to be around 50.
Lahore Organized Crime Unit (OCU) DIG Imran Kishwar, confirmed that this was the fourth robbery by the gang within the past 20 days in the Defense A and C police station jurisdictions.
He stated that the robbers always use a Honda Civic with fake license plates. After the robbery on Tuesday, the gang fled towards the motorway. After receiving information from the family, police began their operation and expect to trace and arrest the culprits soon.
He added that when the robbers reached near Sherakot, they encountered the local SHO and his team. The robbers opened fire upon seeing the police and managed to reach the motorway after crashing into the barriers.
DIG Imran Kishwar mentioned that when the police were informed that the robbers were on the motorway, teams were deployed at exit points in Islamabad, Sargodha, and some other districts. The police expected the criminals to use one of these exits, but they deceived the police by suddenly disappearing after exiting from the Faisalabad interchange.
He further stated that Punjab police have contacted Dera Ismail Khan police and are actively pursuing the criminals, with arrests expected soon.
