Former Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Apologizes for Declining Chairmanship of Appellate Tribunal

Former Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Ibrahim Khan has apologized for declining the position of Chairman of the MTI Appellate Tribunal.

In a letter written to the government, the former Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court stated that the allegations of granting transit bail in the May 9 cases against him are baseless. The impression that he granted bail to individuals from the ruling party in other provinces before the 2024 elections is incorrect.

He stated that he made decisions strictly according to the law at the time and expressed gratitude to the provincial government for their trust in him. However, he declined to take the position.

Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim Takes Oath as Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court

Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim has taken the oath as Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court.

The oath-taking ceremony of the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court was held at the Governor House Peshawar, attended by notable figures including Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ghulam Ali administered the oath to Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim.

Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim was born on December 2, 1969, in Peshawar. He obtained his LLB degree from Khyber Law College in 1992 and began his legal practice in the subordinate courts in 1993. Subsequently, he obtained licenses to practice in the High Court in 1995 and as an Advocate of the Supreme Court in 2008.

Acting Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim was elected Joint Secretary of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association for the 1998-99 term and served as General Secretary in 2007-08. He was also elected President of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association for the 2013-14 term.

Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim became a permanent judge of the Peshawar High Court on June 1, 2018. He served as Assistant Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 1999 to 2000 and as Additional Advocate General from 2008 to 2010.

It is noteworthy that on April 12, Senior Judge of Peshawar High Court Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim was appointed Acting Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court.

Former Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan retired from his position on April 14.
