Mayor of Karachi Offers Investment Opportunities to Chinese Investors and Announces Scholarships for Chinese Students

Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, met with the Mayor of Shanghai, Gong Zheng, during which they discussed mutual cooperation and investment opportunities.

The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and explore opportunities in key sectors including infrastructure development, waste-to-energy projects, energy, and urban services.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab invited Chinese investors to participate in Karachi’s ongoing development projects, highlighting the city’s potential as a center for international cooperation. To further strengthen educational and cultural ties, he also announced scholarships for Chinese students through programs offered by Karachi Metropolitan University.

The Mayor of Karachi announced the construction of a public space in the city to pay tribute to the people of China and their great leader, Chairman Mao Zedong, the first Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party.
Both Mayors — Barrister Murtaza Wahab and Gong Zheng — expressed their strong commitment to promoting long-term cooperation between Karachi and Shanghai and agreed to explore further opportunities for collaboration in various areas of mutual interest.

Municipal Commissioner S.M. Afzal Zaidi (PAS), KMC Financial Advisor Gulzar Ali Abro, and Senior Director of Culture and Sports Mehdi Maluf also accompanied the Mayor of Karachi. During the meeting, Mayor Wahab presented Mayor Gong Zheng with an Ajrak (a traditional Sindhi cloth) and a souvenir, symbolizing the friendship between the two cities.

This high-level meeting marks a significant step towards deepening ties between Karachi and Shanghai and building a sustainable and dynamic partnership framework.
