Today is a Historic Day, Congratulations to Everyone: Ishaq Dar

After the approval of the constitutional amendment by the Senate, Leader of the House and Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar said that today is a historic day, and he congratulates everyone.

Speaking in the Senate, Ishaq Dar stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chairman of the People's Party worked on this with great commitment.

He added that this completes the unfinished agenda of the "Charter of Democracy."

It is noteworthy that the Senate passed the 26th Constitutional Amendment with a two-thirds majority, with 65 votes in favor and 4 against.

The government had 58 votes in favor, BNP-Mengal contributed 2 votes, and JUI-F provided 5 votes. The Senate approved the amendment to Article 175A of the Constitution.

According to the amendment, the term limit for the appointment of the Chief Justice of Pakistan will be three years. The Chief Justice of Pakistan will retire upon reaching the age of 65, as stipulated by the amendment.

The appointment of the Chief Justice of Pakistan will be made by a 12-member special parliamentary committee, which will be presented with the names of the three most senior judges for consideration.

PTI's Aamir Dogar also gave unanimous approval for the constitutional amendment in the parliamentary committee. The constitutional amendment is not anyone’s personal agenda, and if a party chose to stay out of it, that is their right.

We Have Removed the Poison from the Snake's Fangs: Maulana Fazlur Rahman

Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the head of the opposition party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), stated, “We have broken the snake's fangs and removed its poison.”

In a press conference with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Maulana Fazlur Rahman said that during the process of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, they effectively neutralized the opposition's threat.

He further mentioned that PTI has no objections to the content of the constitutional amendment. Their disagreement stems from what happened to their founder and party, and their protest on this matter is justified.

The JUI-F leader added that there will always be some level of objection, and he believes that PTI’s protest was legitimate. He clarified that no force was used against anyone in this entire process.

He also stated that it is PTI’s right to refrain from participating in the voting process as a form of protest. All the contentious points in the original government bill have been removed.

Maulana Fazlur Rahman also remarked that the constitution belongs to the nation. "We worked hard together, but every party has its own efforts. We didn’t go through this for mere display. The bill we initially rejected has been modified."

He said that along with seniority, performance also holds significance, and the constitution is made in the interest of the nation. He recalled that the Constitution of Pakistan was created after the Balochistan Assembly was dissolved.

The JUI-F leader concluded that while there was agreement on the constitutional package, not all its details were fully agreed upon. He emphasized that national consensus is being reached, and now is still the time for reconciliation. The bill has not yet been presented, and they will make one last effort for reconciliation.
