Complaint Filed with FIA Against Those Spreading Misleading News About Easypaisa

Pakistan's leading digital financial services platform, Easypaisa, has formally lodged a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against individuals spreading false and misleading news on social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

According to a statement issued from Islamabad on Wednesday, a fake news report claimed that Easypaisa accounts would be blocked on September 30, 2024, and account holders were advised to withdraw their funds immediately. This news is entirely false.

The complaint was filed by Naresh Kumar Arwani, Head of Legal Affairs at Easypaisa, stating that baseless rumors were causing unnecessary anxiety among customers and damaging the company’s reputation. Easypaisa assured the public that these rumors are completely unfounded, and all accounts will continue to function as usual. The FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing in Sindh has taken action on the complaint, assigning the case to experienced investigator Ameer Ali Khosa. Investigations have begun to identify and take legal action against those involved in spreading misinformation.

Additionally, Bilal Mustafa, Legal Advisor for Easypaisa's North Region, confirmed that a similar complaint has also been filed with the FIA Cyber Wing in Islamabad.

The FIA in Islamabad has initiated action by contacting NADRA to identify the suspects, while the PTA has been instructed to block the social media links associated with the defamatory content.

Spreading false information through social media platforms is a violation of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, and those responsible could face severe penalties.

Easypaisa urged its users to rely only on official sources for news and updates regarding its services.
