Iran launches ballistic missile attack on Israel, firing 400 missiles

In response to Israel's campaign against Hezbollah's allies in Lebanon, Iran launched ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday. Following the missile attacks, alarms sounded throughout Israel, prompting Israelis to gather in bomb shelters. Explosions were heard in Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley. Journalists covering live events on state television were seen taking cover on the ground.

Earlier, the military had warned of a large-scale ballistic missile attack from Iran, advising the public to take shelter in safe rooms in case of an attack.

Iran vowed to retaliate after the killing of senior Hezbollah allies in Lebanon. The missile attack came after Israel announced that its forces had conducted ground operations in Lebanon. The Israeli campaign in Lebanon marks the largest escalation in the regional conflict since the fighting that began in Gaza a year ago.

In Washington, U.S. President Joe Biden stated that America is ready to support Israel in defending itself against Iranian missile attacks.

Israel has called an emergency meeting of its war cabinet, while President Biden has also convened a meeting with his national security team.

Reuters journalists reported seeing missiles being intercepted in the airspace of neighboring Jordan, while Israeli media confirmed that Iran had fired 100 missiles.

According to Arab media reports, Iran launched a missile attack on Israel, with the Israeli military stating that ballistic missiles were fired from Iran.

The Israeli military said that the U.S. had warned of a potential missile attack from Iran, and that such an attack would have serious consequences.

A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei ordered the missile strikes on Israel, and after this attack, Iran is fully prepared to counter any aggression.

Meanwhile, an important meeting is underway at the White House, chaired by U.S. President Joe Biden, where preparations are being discussed in response to Iran’s attack on Israel, according to the White House.

Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera reported that the Israeli military confirmed that missiles were fired from Iran, and sirens were heard throughout the country.

The report stated that there has not yet been an official confirmation from Iran regarding the attack.

Reporting from Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian journalist Muhammad Khairy said that dozens of missiles could be seen heading west toward occupied Jerusalem and Israel.

He told Al Jazeera Arabic that the missiles were being launched almost continuously, and sirens could be heard in major areas of Israel.

The Iranian attack on Israel comes shortly after Israeli forces began attacking Syria, following earlier strikes on Gaza and Lebanon. These strikes resulted in the deaths of three civilians, including a female journalist, and left 19 others injured.

According to reports from foreign news agencies, fires broke out in the Syrian capital Damascus following Israeli attacks, engulfing several vehicles.

Two military sources in Syria told Reuters that Israel targeted three anti-aircraft radar stations in southern Syria.

The report also mentioned that Israel specifically targeted at least three anti-aircraft radar stations in southern Syria, including one located at a military airbase.

Media reports confirmed that the Israeli attacks resulted in the death of a female journalist from Syria’s state news agency, SANA, as well as two other civilians. Nineteen civilians were also injured and are receiving medical treatment.

It should be noted that after two weeks of devastating aerial bombardment, Israeli forces entered Lebanon last night and launched widespread ground assaults.

The Israeli military stated that it began attacking Lebanon on Monday night, with commandos from the 98th Elite Division and paramilitary forces, who had been redeployed from the northern front in Gaza two weeks ago.

Israel claimed that limited ground attacks were being launched to target Hezbollah positions, with air force support provided to Israeli troops.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that at least 95 people were killed and 172 were injured in Israel's brutal attacks in the southern region, eastern Bekaa Valley, and Beirut over the past 24 hours.

Two days ago, Israel bombed Yemen after attacks on Palestine and Lebanon, targeting the port of Hudaydah, Yemen's fourth-largest city, resulting in the deaths of at least four people and injuries to more than 30 others.
