Acer Announces 10% Price Hike on Laptops

Acer’s CEO has warned that some companies may use Trump’s tariffs on Chinese imports as an excuse to increase product prices by more than 10%.

Following President Trump's 10% tariffs on Chinese goods, Acer is set to raise laptop prices.

According to The Telegraph, the Taiwanese computer manufacturer plans to increase the prices of its China-made laptops starting next month. "We believe the import tax will lead to a 10% price increase," said Acer CEO Jason Chen, calling it a straightforward consequence.

Considering Production Shift

Like other companies, Acer is exploring options to move manufacturing out of China to avoid tariffs. Chen stated that the company is even considering the U.S. as a potential manufacturing hub—a possibility also floated by electronics giant Foxconn.

One of Trump’s key reasons for imposing tariffs is to boost U.S. manufacturing, a move that could soon impact foreign-made chips as well. However, building new electronics factories takes years and billions of dollars, meaning consumers should brace for price hikes in the short term.

The Consumer Technology Association estimates that China produces 79% of all laptops and tablets, making these tariffs a significant industry challenge.

Current & Future Laptop Prices

For now, existing Acer laptops in the U.S. are being sold at current prices. However, as retailers deplete their stock, new shipments from China will reflect the increased pricing.

Potential Overpricing Concerns

According to The Telegraph, Acer’s CEO also cautioned that some companies may overinflate prices beyond the tariff impact.

A similar situation has emerged with NVIDIA’s latest GeForce RTX 5000 graphics cards, which have also seen price hikes. The RTX 5070 Ti model is set to launch this Thursday, yet retailers have already listed it at $899, despite an expected MSRP of $749.
