Samsung is allegedly spending money on adding a second NFC antenna to the Galaxy S26 series, according to a claim from South Korean publication ET News (via 9to5Google). This new NFC module, placed at the top of the device near the camera array, would work alongside the existing sensor. The move appears inspired by Apple’s approach to enhancing user experience with payment systems.
A Samsung “official,” cited by the publication, noted that while Apple holds multiple patents related to such NFC enhancements, Samsung has been working to technically avoid infringement to bring this feature to the upcoming Galaxy S26.
The goal is better convenience for Samsung Wallet users. Current NFC placement has occasionally led to failed payment attempts, forcing users into awkward hand movements to align their phones with retail scanners. These problems are intended to be resolved by the alleged extra sensor, which will improve tap-to-pay.
It’s still uncertain whether Samsung will include this dual-NFC setup in the final Galaxy S26 design. With several months left until launch, plans could still change.
Other Galaxy S26 Rumors So Far
-
Camera: The base S26 model may see no major camera overhaul, except for a possible telephoto lens bump from 10MP to 12MP, while maintaining its 3x optical zoom, potentially delivering sharper shots.
-
S26 Ultra: Expected to be thinner (under 7mm) and feel lighter in hand, possibly achieved by shaving around 1mm off its body. Charging speeds might jump from 45W to 60W, though reports remain conflicting.
Separately, Samsung recently updated its Wallet app to support installment payment options during in-store checkout for eligible Visa and MasterCard users, giving customers more flexibility when making purchases.
If these NFC rumors hold true, the Galaxy S26 series could make mobile payments noticeably faster and more reliable, putting pressure on competitors in the contactless payment space.
