Samsung’s New Tablet Can Run Without a Battery—Meet the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro

Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro, a rugged Android tablet built for enterprise and industrial use—and its most standout feature? It can operate even without a battery.

Designed for tough work environments, this tablet offers dual hot-swappable batteries, a no-battery operation mode, IP68 and MIL-STD-810H durability ratings, support for Samsung DeX, front-facing NFC, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an S Pen.

The Tab Active 5 Pro will ship with Android 15 and an impressive eight-year commitment to OS and security updates. While pricing is still under wraps, the device is expected to be available in June 2025.

A Niche Device for Specialized Needs

In a world where Android tablets are already scarce—especially ones with rugged builds and swappable batteries—the Tab Active 5 Pro stands out. With most consumer devices moving away from removable power sources, Samsung’s latest device revives that functionality for professionals who need it most.

Unique Features That Make It Industrial-Ready

While it shares some features with Samsung’s recently announced XCover 7 Pro, the Tab Active 5 Pro offers a few clever tricks of its own:

  • Dual hot-swappable batteries allow users to change batteries without powering down the device.

  • The No Battery Mode lets the tablet run directly from external power sources (21W and above), even without a battery, though performance may be slightly reduced.

  • Charging is supported via both USB-C (USB 3.2 enabled) and a Pogo pin dock, useful in multi-device charging setups.

  • The 10,100mAh battery is user-replaceable.

Specs & Performance

The Tab Active 5 Pro comes with a 10.1-inch WUXGA TFT LCD display, offering a 120Hz refresh rate, 600 nits brightness, 16:10 aspect ratio, and support for 2mm glove input.

Under the hood, it runs on the 4nm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor and is available in two configurations: 6GB RAM with 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM with 256GB storage—expandable up to 2TB via microSD.

Camera-wise, it includes a 12MP f/1.8 rear camera and an 8MP f/2.0 front camera.

Connectivity, Durability & Design

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, 5G (sub-6GHz), and dual-SIM support. For durability, the tablet is IP68-certified for water and dust resistance, tested to MIL-STD-810H standards, and protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+. It’s also tested to withstand frequent sanitization, making it suitable for healthcare settings.

Extra Tools for Enterprise Users

  • An IP68-rated S Pen

  • Fingerprint sensor

  • Programmable Active Key

  • Dolby Atmos stereo speakers

  • Front-facing NFC for retail POS use

  • Samsung DeX (wired) support

  • And yes, a 3.5mm headphone jack is still included

Longevity You Can Count On

Samsung promises eight years of software and security updates, making this tablet not only durable but future-proof. It will launch running Android 15.

Availability & Pricing

Samsung hasn’t revealed the official price yet—likely due to current global market uncertainties. However, the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro is expected to launch in early June 2025, with more details to be announced closer to release.
