Amid the ongoing Material You (Material 3) redesign rollout, Google Keep for Android is introducing a new “Sort By” option aimed at improving usability.
This simple enhancement appears as a new icon in the search bar, positioned beside the single/multi-column feed switcher. Tapping it pulls up a rounded “Sort” sheet sliding up from the bottom of the screen, offering three options:
-
Custom — the default, allowing you to manually drag and reorder notes.
-
Notes are arranged according to the date they were created.
-
Date Modified — arranges notes by last edit time.
When either date-based option is selected, the sort icon in the search field gets a pill-shaped highlight to show it’s active. Google Keep also remembers your Custom order, making it easy to switch back after using date-based sorting.
Currently, the feature isn’t visible on iOS or the web client.
As of Google Keep version 5.25.312.00.90, it is being extensively distributed to users who still utilize the Material 3 styling and Content You design, which more people are now seeing, though it’s not yet fully available to everyone.
