Apps Tab Upgrades
The Apps tab is receiving several fresh features.
-
In South Korea, a new “Fun Spot” top tab will let users sample mobile-optimized movies, TV shows, and short-form dramas.
-
In the U.S., users can directly watch trending TV and film clips, live-stream short dramas, and browse webcomics.
Since the start of this month, the Top carousel has begun showcasing curated, seasonal themes in a more immersive visual style. These highlight timely content tied to user interests—for example, the WNBA playoffs, Halloween, or Chuseok in Korea.
A new guided search feature lets you type natural questions like “find a home” to surface apps for real estate, or “deck-building games” to pull up AI-organized app recommendations by category.
App listings themselves are getting a visual refresh: larger square preview images displayed in a full-width carousel, with the install button moved down for a cleaner look.
Gaming + You Tab
Google Play now offers a platform-wide gamer profile spanning different titles and devices. It begins with AI-generated profile images, created from prompts. From there, you can track achievements and stats over custom timeframes—past month, past year, or all-time.
A new gaming streak counter tracks days you’ve played at least a few minutes. Google will highlight your longest streaks, which also earn Play Points. You can make your profile public so others can follow and view your top-level activity.
All of this lives inside the brand-new “You” tab, now appearing at the far end of the bottom bar. For non-gamers, this feed surfaces personalized recommendations for books, podcasts, and streaming content.
Leagues, Listings, and Community
Google is also launching Play Games Leagues—global competitions with Play Points as rewards for leaderboard toppers. The first league, running October 10–23, will center on Subway Surfers.
Game listings are evolving as well. They’ll now highlight ongoing events, developer updates, and special offers. For installed games, you’ll see summaries of progress, achievements, and updates from the dev team.
Players can also create community Q&A posts, asking for tips or help if they’re stuck on a level.
Google Play Games on PC
On the PC front, Google Play Games has exited beta and entered general availability, with a catalog of over 200,000 titles playable across mobile and PC.
These new Google Play gaming features and the You tab begin rolling out today.
