Despite Reduction in Production Costs, Dairy Farmers Insist on Raising Milk Prices

In negotiations with the Karachi Commissioner, dairy farmers are seeking an increase in milk prices based on production costs from three months ago.

Details indicate that there was no agreement on price increases between the Karachi Commissioner and the dairy vendors, resulting in unsuccessful negotiations.

Sources revealed that there has been a significant reduction in the prices of petroleum products, salt, mustard oil, and fodder bran. Despite this, dairy farmers are demanding an increase based on the production costs from three months ago.

The dairy vendors are asking for a 50 rupees per liter increase, while the Commissioner is willing to approve a 10 rupees per liter increase. Dairy farmers have requested a 50 rupees per liter hike in milk prices.

Shakir Umar Gujar stated that instead of addressing the production costs, an increase of only 10 rupees per liter is being suggested.

He further mentioned that if the Karachi Commissioner does not increase the milk prices, they will announce the price hike on their own.

Sindh High Court: Petition Against Milk Price Increase Scheduled After Eid

The Sindh High Court has accepted the request for an urgent hearing on the dairy farmers' petition to increase milk prices.

The court has directed that the hearing be scheduled after the Eid-ul-Adha holidays.

In the petition, the citizen stated that the price of milk for dairy farmers has been set at 180 rupees per liter, which is causing significant losses when selling at this price.

The petitioner argued that the Karachi Commissioner rejected all institutional reports and made his own decision. The petition asks the court to set the price of milk for dairy farmers at 229 rupees per liter.

The petitioner also mentioned that due to the lower rate, 25% of their business has shut down.
