Improved Visibility with a Bold New Design
The updated read receipts now feature a bold look with a white background and colorful checkmarks. This change is currently limited to users who already have access to the redesigned read receipts that were introduced late last year.
In the earlier redesign, read receipts were moved from below the text bubbles to inside the bottom-right corner of the bubbles. This change also added a new animation and allowed users to swipe left on a text bubble to view timestamps and end-to-end encryption status. Although the new design isn’t yet widely available, Google is now testing the enhanced color scheme to improve visibility.
Addressing Design Challenges
Previously, read receipts featured white checkmarks within a circular background, with the background color closely matching the text bubble. This made the design less ideal for visibility. Recognizing this issue, Google has started testing a new color scheme with a white circular background and vibrant, colorful checkmarks, significantly improving readability.
Enhanced Readability at a Glance
As seen in the attached examples, the updated color scheme makes it much easier for users to determine at a glance whether their messages have been delivered or read. This new design is gradually rolling out to users who already have the redesigned read receipts, with broader availability expected as the new feature expands.
