Students Protesting on the Streets are Terrorists, They Must be Crushed: Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Wajid

Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid has labeled the students initiating a civil disobedience movement as terrorists and has called for their strict suppression. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's Army Chief General Waqar Zaman has instructed the armed forces to ensure the protection of the public and important state institutions at all costs.

It is evident that due to the government's harsh and retaliatory stance, the student movement called for nationwide civil disobedience, resulting in riots in several cities and the loss of many lives. The students had given the government an ultimatum for the release of their detained comrades and other demands. However, when their demands were not met, the students launched a civil disobedience movement across the country on Saturday, demanding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation.

On Sunday, the riots intensified. In response, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid issued a statement declaring that the protesting students on the streets are not students but terrorists trying to destabilize the country. She appealed to the citizens to strictly crush these terrorists.

We Stand with the People: Bangladeshi Army Chief

According to international news agencies, Bangladesh's Army Chief Waqar Zaman stated that the army is a symbol of public trust and will not let that be undermined. He assured that the armed forces are always standing with the people and are fully prepared and vigilant to protect the citizens and meet any state needs.

General Waqar Zaman instructed officers to be aware of rumors spreading on social media and urged every department to perform their duties with honesty and dedication.

In light of the protests, the Pakistani High Commission in Dhaka stated that one-third of the 144 Pakistani students in Bangladesh have already returned to Pakistan, with a few more expected to leave soon. The Pakistani High Commission is closely monitoring the situation, prioritizing the safety of Pakistani citizens.

The Pakistani High Commission also advised students to immediately reach the High Commission if the situation deteriorates. For those who couldn't reach, they have been contacted by telephone. Students were advised to stay confined to their rooms and keep themselves away from the ongoing situation.
