According to the state news agency APP, the Presidency’s Press Wing issued a statement saying that President Zardari expressed deep sympathy on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan.
The statement quoted President Zardari as saying that the entire nation mourns the loss of a true friend and a great humanitarian. He mentioned that he had a personal relationship with the late Aga Khan, and his passing was deeply saddening.
President Zardari praised Aga Khan’s contributions to Pakistan’s social and economic development, highlighting that his visionary leadership improved the lives of people in Pakistan and across the world.
He further stated that he learned of Aga Khan’s passing during his official visit to China. To pay tribute to Aga Khan’s humanitarian work and lifelong dedication to humanity, he traveled to Lisbon, Portugal.
President Zardari emphasized that the late Aga Khan’s services to humanity will always be remembered, and he expressed hope that Prince Rahim Al-Husseini, the 50th spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, would continue his father’s mission of serving humanity.
President Zardari is currently in Lisbon to offer condolences and pay tribute to Prince Karim Aga Khan.
The late Aga Khan dedicated his life to humanitarian service and the welfare of people. President Zardari’s visit reflects the strong and enduring friendship between Pakistan and the Aga Khan family, as well as the lasting impact of Prince Karim Aga Khan’s legacy.
Funeral in Egypt and Lisbon Memorial
It is noteworthy that Prince Karim Aga Khan IV was laid to rest in Aswan, Egypt, yesterday.
More than 300 guests attended his memorial service at the Ismaili Centre in Lisbon, including:

- Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa
- Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb
- Ismaili community leaders
