We will make a final announcement on constitutional amendments after Imran Khan’s directives: Barrister Gohar

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar has stated that a long discussion has been held with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding constitutional amendments, and a consensus has been reached.

While speaking to the media in Islamabad with PTI leaders, he said, "We had reached the conclusion yesterday that a consensus would be achieved, and today as well, we had an extended discussion with JUI leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the clauses included in the constitutional amendment."

He mentioned that the government has shared the fourth draft of the constitutional amendment with them. "So far, the government has provided us with four drafts, all of which are similar," he added.

Barrister Gohar stated that the fourth draft contains amendments to 26 articles. "Our discussions were ongoing, but the special committee has approved this draft. We are still in talks, and we will soon reach a conclusion."

The PTI chairman emphasized, "Our stance is clear: our agreement on the constitutional amendment is conditional upon the instructions provided by Imran Khan."

He added that today, "We will request a meeting with the PTI founder and will try to meet him tomorrow. After the meeting, we will give our final opinion on the constitutional amendment."

Barrister Gohar further stated that after meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, they have reached a consensus. "The draft, which is based on suggestions from our representatives and those from JUI in the special committee formed for the constitutional amendment, has been approved, but discussions with the JUI leader are still ongoing."

Barrister Gohar stated that, regarding the constitutional amendments, they have almost reached an agreement with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and a final announcement will be made tomorrow after receiving instructions from Imran Khan.

While speaking to media representatives, Barrister Gohar said that today, PTI and its allies met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss the 26th constitutional amendment. "In the last meeting, there was a possibility of reaching a consensus," he said.

He mentioned that the discussions are still ongoing. "Once we have consensus or agreement on this, we will meet with Imran Khan and proceed according to his instructions. Today, we will request a meeting, and we will try to meet him tomorrow. After that, we will provide our final position based on Imran Khan’s guidance."

He said that a meeting and discussion have taken place with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and they have almost reached an agreement.

He also mentioned that PTI’s Aamir Dogar and JUI's representative were present in the special committee, and the draft presented, which the committee has approved, is the same draft that is still under negotiation with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Barrister Gohar expressed hope that, after receiving directives from Imran Khan, a final announcement will be made tomorrow. However, today, an agreement has almost been reached with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and this will be presented to Imran Khan, and any further instructions will be communicated tomorrow.

In response to a question, he said that during the meeting, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also arrived. Maulana Fazlur Rehman gave him some time, and there were pleasantries exchanged between them, but no discussion took place regarding the draft.
