Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, former PCB Chairmen Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf, national team players, and other distinguished personalities.
The Prime Minister distributed appreciation shields among officials from various departments.
Shehbaz Sharif’s Address at the Ceremony
Addressing the ceremony, Shehbaz Sharif expressed his joy over the successful renovation of Gaddafi Stadium, saying, "This is a day of great happiness for all of us as the stadium's renovation has been completed in a remarkable manner. As you just heard, this project was made possible through teamwork, whether it was contractors, laborers, or under the supervision of Mohsin Naqvi."
He further said that Punjab’s Chief Minister played a vital role in the renovation of the stadium, adding, "I thank you and the Punjab government for your support. ‘Shehbaz Speed’ is a thing of the past; now I talk about ‘Mohsin Speed’ in this regard."
Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated and praised Pakistan’s national cricket team, stating, "I want to commend and congratulate our outstanding players for playing exceptional cricket in recent months. You have won the hearts of the entire nation, and now the Champions Trophy awaits your victory."
He added, "Winning the Champions Trophy will make you national heroes. Defeating India will win the hearts of 240 million Pakistanis, and we all pray for your success."
The Prime Minister concluded by saying, "We eagerly await the moment when you defeat India. May Allah grant Pakistan the Champions Trophy."
Speeches by Other Dignitaries
Speaking at the event, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said, "Pakistani cricketers are our pride. We hope our team delivers its best performance. It is our wish that the Champions Trophy final is held in Lahore and that we lift the title."
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, in his speech, recalled, "Prime Minister, you laid the foundation stone of this project about four months ago. This was an old stadium, and our goal was to complete its renovation before the Champions Trophy."
He further stated, "Around 2,500 laborers worked tirelessly day and night, and within a record 177 days, we transformed it into a state-of-the-art stadium."
He credited the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) for achieving this remarkable feat, saying, "FWO turned the impossible into possible. Even in this challenging time, the Pakistan Army came to our aid; otherwise, completing this project in such a short period would have been difficult."
