Performance and Memory
The base model retains 16GB of RAM, similar to last year's version, ensuring it meets the minimum requirements for Apple Intelligence features. Buyers can also upgrade to 32GB of built-in memory for more demanding tasks.
Port Upgrades
Previous MacBook Air models featured two Thunderbolt 3 ports. With this update, Apple has upgraded them to Thunderbolt 4, allowing users to connect two external displays alongside the built-in screen. The laptop still includes a MagSafe 3 charging port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
New Features
- Upgraded Webcam: Now supports Center Stage, which keeps the speaker centered in the frame.
- New Color Option: Apple introduces Sky Blue, alongside the existing Midnight, Starlight, and Silver options.
MacBook Air vs. MacBook Pro
While the MacBook Air is lighter and more affordable than the MacBook Pro, it does come with some trade-offs. The MacBook Pro offers longer battery life and a higher-resolution mini-LED display with better pixel density.
Despite these differences, the MacBook Air remains one of Apple's best-selling laptops due to its balance of performance and affordability. The M4 update may not be a major overhaul, but it is expected to maintain strong sales, similar to the M3 MacBook Air.
Apple’s Transition to M4 Chips
Apple first introduced the M4 chip in May 2024 with the iPad Pro. Over the past year, the company has gradually upgraded its product lineup, equipping the MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and iMac with M4 chips or their Pro and Max versions.
