PPP Sindh Council Meeting: Resolution Against Canal Project Passed Unanimously

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh Council has unanimously passed a resolution against the canal project.

The meeting was held at the Chief Minister's House under the chairmanship of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. It was attended by provincial, divisional, and district officials, along with members of parliament and ticket holders.

While addressing the meeting, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that on April 4th, the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, people from across the country will gather in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto to pay tribute.

Bilawal Bhutto expressed support for the resolution passed by the PPP Sindh Council against the canal project on the Indus River. He stated that the PPP has consistently opposed the construction of new canals on the Indus River from the beginning.

PPP Sindh President Nisar Khuhro said that the project involving six canals is a plan to turn Sindh into a barren land. He demanded the federal government to withdraw from the project and called for a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) to address Sindh's concerns.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated that Sindh will never accept the new canal project from the Indus River system, as there is already a severe water shortage. "Where will the water for these canals come from?" he questioned.

Through this resolution, the PPP Sindh Council rejected the project of six canals on the Indus River and demanded that IRSA and the federal government ensure Sindh receives its full share of water as per the 1991 Water Accord's Paragraph Two.

The resolution also condemned the Jafar Express incident and paid tribute to the security forces and the Pakistan Army for bravely defeating the terrorists.
