Currently, LG OLED TV owners can access Google Assistant by linking their account and using the microphone button on the bundled remote. However, this feature is set to disappear soon, as a notification titled "Google Assistant Service Termination" confirms that Google Assistant integration and functionality will no longer be available starting May 1, 2025.
A message displayed on an LG CX OLED TV states:
"Starting May 1, 2025, Google Assistant will no longer be available on this device. However, the voice recognition service provided through the microphone button on the remote will still be accessible."
While basic voice controls will remain functional, they will be managed by LG’s built-in voice service instead of Google Assistant.
Impact on Google Home and Other Services
This change should not affect other Google apps on your LG TV, but it could impact your Google Home ecosystem. Currently, LG TVs can be integrated into Google Assistant-powered smart home setups via the ThinQ app. However, it is unclear whether the removal of Google Assistant voice control will cause issues with existing automations and routines.
At this time, LG has not provided official support pages to confirm how this will affect Google Home-linked devices. This marks the first official notice from LG regarding the removal of Google Assistant support.
What You Can Do to Prepare
If you rely on Google Assistant for controlling your LG TV, it’s advisable to review and adjust any automation settings before May 1. You can check or remove any linked accounts via Google’s "Connections" page.
Additionally, to minimize potential disruptions, removing the ThinQ app from your Google Home setup might be a precautionary step worth considering.
