Gemini App Update Brings New Android Icon and Widget Shortcuts

Google has rolled out a fresh update to the Gemini app for Android, introducing a redesigned app icon and several enhancements to the home screen widget, including new quick access shortcuts.

The updated icon features a vibrant gradient blend of blue, green, yellow, and red — replacing the older blue-purple logo. It’s noticeably larger and now occupies more space within the white circular background, with the four tips of the icon being distinctly rounded.

At the same time, the Gemini widget — originally launched in April — has undergone further refinement. Google has added new shortcuts that allow users to instantly access text input, voice commands, camera functions, file uploads, gallery images, and live sessions.

Video and screen sharing now launch directly into relevant Gemini Live modes. If you're using a 3×3 layout or larger, all eight shortcut options become visible for easier interaction.

Additionally, the “Ask Gemini” bar has been simplified. It now just reads “Gemini” alongside the updated icon, set against a background that visually blends with the rest of the widget. The input field has been redesigned from a pill shape to a rounded rectangle. Now, the 5x1 widget arrangement highlights quicker access to several Gemini Live options.

The Gemini app, version 1.0.776555963, is now available on the Play Store. However, the redesigned icon has not yet been pushed to the web or iOS version of the app — though updates are expected to arrive soon.
