Daily Hub on the Pixel 10: Think of it as a lesser version of Samsung's "Now Briefing." And I can’t believe I’m saying that. Daily Hub almost does nothing.
The concept is simple enough: a central space you can check a few times a day for your local weather, upcoming calendar events, and maybe some suggestions for research or media when you’ve got downtime. Right now it lives as a special button tucked into the corner of Google Discover, meaning it’s at least one swipe and one tap away. Occasionally, tapping the At a Glance widget on your home screen might lead you there too.
I usually leave Daily Hub after reviewing the Pixel 10 series for more than a week feeling let down, if not a little down. Writing this review only reinforces that feeling.
Take the weather, for example. Do I really need yet another AI-summarized forecast? I already see the weather on my lock screen and home screen via At a Glance. The Pixel’s dedicated weather app gives me the same info. Slapping an “AI spin” on something that’s already perfectly accessible is redundant at best. Not everything needs an AI layer—and weather is a prime example.
Then there are calendar items. Sure, Daily Hub shows them, but again—I already have that info at a glance or in a widget without having to dig into a separate panel. At most, this might be useful first thing in the morning. But Google seems to want you to check it throughout the day as your schedule shifts. It just doesn’t add enough value.
Additionally, Google stuffed the Hub with trash information because it was obvious they had no other idea what to do with it. There’s a music continuation section, random YouTube recommendations you can’t dismiss or control, and other filler that clogs the space until the feed refreshes. If the suggestions are garbage, you’re stuck staring at them.
The worst offender is a section that throws out topics Google thinks you care about. Tap one, and it just launches a Gemini session to pull in more info. If you love digging through AI-powered research, maybe this is “neat.” To me, it feels like clutter—padding for a feature that didn’t have a clear purpose.
So what could Google do better? Honestly, a lot. They should start by giving users real control over what appears here, including the sources feeding into it. Adapt Google Home routines to the time of day by adding shortcuts. Offer quick access to frequently used apps, or even simple tools like stopwatch and alarm. Why not show your daily commute? Anything would be more useful than filler playlists and forced YouTube picks.
In fact, what I really want is something closer to Google Now—yes, the old pre-AI feed that quietly surfaced exactly the info I needed at the right time. It was genuinely useful, and I think Google could reimagine that approach, sprinkling in AI where it actually makes sense rather than forcing it onto everything.
