Google Home 3.39's New Features: Wi-Fi Presence Sensing

Google Home 3.39's New Features: Wi-Fi Presence Sensing

The release notes for Google Home 3.39, which highlight three significant upgrades, have come following last week's widespread rollout.

Wi-Fi Presence Detection

The Home & Away states can now adjust automatically based on whether your mobile device connects to or disconnects from a chosen Wi-Fi network. To set this up, head to Settings > Presence sensing > Home Wi-Fi networks in the Home app.

Once enabled, your phone’s Wi-Fi signal is used to determine if everyone has left the house or if someone has returned.

Smarter Thermostat Features

Google is also reiterating its recent expansion of scheduling features for the Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen) and the Nest Thermostat E. These models now support temperature scheduling, sensor scheduling, and fan scheduling.

All Nest thermostats benefit from:

  • Enhanced thermostat controls in the Home app with clearer heat/cool status, dynamic colors, and more detailed readouts.

  • A refreshed energy dashboard that shows separate totals for heating and cooling, breaks down usage by stage and heating type (e.g., auxiliary, backup, stage 1, stage 2), and includes a year-over-year weekly comparison of monthly energy usage.

Additional Fixes

  • iPad freeze issue: Fixed a bug where the Home app would freeze after tapping on a household member.

  • Incorrect video playback on iOS: Resolved an error where Nest Doorbell video was wrong after switching from event playback back to live view.

  • iOS passcode error: Fixed the “Something went wrong” message that appeared when trying to set up a lock passcode.

Summary: With version 3.39, Google Home introduces Wi-Fi-based presence sensing, expands Nest thermostat scheduling, polishes the energy dashboard, and fixes multiple iOS/iPad bugs — delivering a more seamless smart home experience.
