Google Drive Scanner Gets a Redesigned Editor with Material 3 Styling

Google Drive Scanner Gets a Redesigned Editor with Material 3 Styling

Alongside the broader Material 3 design refresh, Google is rolling out a revamped editing interface for the Google Drive document scanner.

The scanning camera UI itself remains unchanged — the redesign only kicks in after you capture a document.

From that point, you’re greeted with large full-page previews, making it easier to review every detail of your scans. The new full-screen view also allows effortless swiping between pages, while a shortcut in the lower-right corner of each image provides quick access to delete or retake a page.

Replacing the old bottom bar, a tool carousel now sits beneath the preview. It brings a refreshed Material 3 button group for adding pages, applying filters, cropping, rotating, and more.

Google explains that the new thumbnail carousel makes it simple to skim through an entire document at a glance, while also allowing drag-and-drop page reordering. At the end of the flow, a dedicated button lets you scan additional pages. Once finished, you can move ahead by tapping “Skip scan” or “Next.”

Old vs New

Overall, Google says the redesign delivers a smoother, more polished editing experience when working with scanned documents. While Google’s blog post didn’t mention it explicitly, the screenshots of the new interface are clearly from the Android version of Drive.

The update begins rolling out today and will expand globally over the coming weeks. It will be available to all Google Workspace users, Workspace Individual subscribers, and personal Google accounts.
