The Jamaat-e-Islami protest against inflation in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, is continuing on its 8th day. There has been progress in negotiations between the government’s negotiating committee and Jamaat-e-Islami. Hafiz Naeem, addressing the protest via video link, stated that opting for an escape route will not resolve the issue; protests will increase and roads will remain blocked. "D-Chowk is a minor issue; we will go to Parliament House."
Hafiz Naeem further stated that they are in contact with traders and industrialists. "What does the FBR do with 25,000 employees? IPPs are involved in looting."
According to sources, the Punjab government has decided to release the detained leaders and workers. The decision was made based on recommendations from the federal government. Jamaat-e-Islami's detained workers will be released today.
It is noted that the participants are determined to have their demands met, and people continue to arrive. Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami's Amir Hafiz Naeem Ismail has traveled to Qatar to attend Ismail Haniyeh's funeral.
The protesters performed Fajr prayers in congregation in the morning. The protest participants and Rawalpindi Waste Management staff cleaned the protest area, and it was announced from the stage to maintain cleanliness.
Hafiz Naeem's Departure to Qatar
Jamaat-e-Islami’s Deputy Amir Liaquat Baloch stated that Amir Hafiz Naeem has gone to Qatar to attend Ismail Haniyeh’s funeral and will return to join us tomorrow.
Liaquat Baloch also mentioned that IPPs (Independent Power Producers) have been favored, and the government is deceiving the public with agreements with IPPs. Protests and sit-ins are also a part of Pakistan’s politics, and the agenda is public, not personal.
He said that there should be a review of faulty projects. The government’s negotiating committee has assured that the demands will be conveyed to the Prime Minister. The committee includes places like Committee Chowk, Faizabad, and Zero Point from Liaquat Bagh to D-Chowk. If the government does not provide relief, it will be at a loss.
Government Thought Protest Would Last a Day or Two, Hafiz Naeem
It is noteworthy that in a speech to the protesters yesterday, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Amir Hafiz Naeem Rahman said that the protest has completed 7 days. The government thought it would last only a day or two, but the workers have proven that the protest is growing daily.
Hafiz Naeem Rahman stated that the protest has become a center of hope for the people of the country. Jamaat-e-Islami has started a decisive struggle. The protest is also increasing, and public outreach is improving. The first phase of the "Give Rights to the People" movement is to reduce electricity bills.
The Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami said that the privileged class wants to sell all the country's institutions. If someone invests, they face bribery from institutions. The privileged class is united. The protest is aimed at ending the system of oppression.
He said that rulers are protecting thieves and robbers. The PPP signed agreements with IPPs in 1994. Pervez Musharraf, PPP, and PML-N favored IPPs, wasting thousands of billions of rupees. The PTI government also favored IPPs. The protest will not end until the issue with IPPs is resolved.
Hafiz Naeem Rahman stated that those who made agreements with IPPs are responsible, and they will not pay capacity charges.
