Onion Exports in Pakistan Reach Record Levels in History

Karachi: Onion exports from Pakistan have reached record levels in the country's history, with exports exceeding $200 million from July to April.

Details reveal that onions have become the leading export product among fruits and vegetables in Pakistan's history. Patron of the Vegetable and Fruit Exporters Association, Waheed Ahmed, reported that onion exports surpassed $210 million from July to April.

Waheed Ahmed stated that previously, the export of kinnow (mandarins) exceeded $210 million. He explained that the ban on Indian onion exports has opened new markets for Pakistan, providing access to major markets in the Far East, the Middle East, and other parts of the world. Today, Pakistani onions are available in major stores worldwide. The government needs to take steps to increase the shelf life of onions as well.

Fruit and vegetable exporters can develop new markets for Pakistani onions in the future. In the 70-year history of the country, this is a record export and foreign exchange earning for any vegetable.
