First Phase of Investigation Completed with Imran Khan's Wife Bushra Bibi Regarding May 9 Events

A police team has completed the first phase of the investigation with Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, regarding the events of May 9 at Adiala Jail.

The investigative team from Rawalpindi Police was led by SP Faisal Saleem and included DSP Sikandar, female DSP Fauzia, Inspector Qaiser, Yaqoob Shah, and Husnain Ali.

Jail sources stated that the police team completed the first phase of the investigation concerning the May 9 events and questioned Bushra Bibi for 30 minutes at Adiala Jail.

During the investigation, the police team asked Bushra Bibi about the protests and arson incidents in Rawalpindi, as well as the planning of protests in front of sensitive locations.

The jail sources added that various questions were asked based on the evidence collected during the investigation.

It is noteworthy that the Anti-Terrorism Court has directed the police to complete the investigation with Bushra Bibi within a week. Earlier, on August 12, the Anti-Terrorism Court had rejected Bushra Bibi’s bail in 12 cases.

Faiz Hameed Was an Asset, But He Was Wasted: Imran Khan

Former Prime Minister and PTI founder chairman Imran Khan stated that the matter of retired General Faiz Hameed is an internal issue of the army and that he has no connection with the former ISI chief.

In a conversation with journalists at Adiala Jail, Imran Khan said that he had no connection with retired General Faiz, and if the army wants to hold him accountable, they can do so. "It has nothing to do with me; this is an internal matter of the army," he said.

The PTI chairman further commented on Khawaja Asif’s statement, saying that if General Faiz was directly involved in the May 9 events, then it should be investigated. "It’s good that the army is conducting internal accountability; if they are doing so, then they should hold everyone accountable. The entire situation started with my arrest; why is that not being investigated?"

Imran Khan mentioned that General Faiz Hameed had good relations with the Taliban and was engaged in negotiations with them for three years. "I did not want to remove Faiz Hameed as he was engaged with the Taliban and the Afghan government. Faiz Hameed brought Zalmay Khalilzad and the Taliban to me," he said.

He lamented, "Faiz Hameed was an asset to us, but he was wasted. I repeatedly told General Bajwa not to remove Faiz Hameed. General Bajwa removed him for his own extension. I hold General Bajwa responsible for the current wave of terrorism."

Imran Khan also referred to Khawaja Asif’s statement that General Bajwa wanted an extension, which supports his stance. "General Bajwa toppled my government for his extension. Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif’s condition was the removal of General Faiz, and this led to a severe rift between me and General Bajwa."
