Sardar Akhtar Mengal, the leader of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal), has stated that he will not withdraw his resignation under any circumstances. He expressed his distrust in the system, including the parliament, judiciary, politicians, political parties, and media.
Mengal remarked that he has decided not to give interviews to the media except to a few select anchors who understand the issue of Balochistan. He criticized others for their lack of understanding of the Balochistan issue, saying that it is not just a "ki" (Punjabi for 'what') but an English "Key," implying a key to a lock that is in GHQ and cannot be opened by anyone.
He emphasized that despite efforts to understand the Balochistan issue at the national level, the responses received have either been non-comprehending or obstructed. Mengal described his resignation as a tough decision that he made without consulting his party or family members. He mentioned contacting Speaker Asad Qaiser and Leader of the Opposition Umar Ayub late at night and said that the opposition members eventually left when his speech started, causing a quorum break, which he believed was deliberate.
Mengal criticized the parliament for being unwilling to listen to the Balochistan issue, claiming that even the walls have no ears. He mentioned that no one from the government has contacted him since his resignation, questioning how they could address issues he has been unable to explain since 1988.
He said that if they want to address the matter now, they should talk to those in power who are comfortably seated, rather than those who are in challenging positions. Mengal added that if they are dissatisfied with his speaking out, they should not blame him if the youth join political parties or insurgents fighting for freedom.
Mengal expressed disappointment with politicians, stating that politics has been replaced by business interests. He criticized politicians for being unable to address the issue of missing persons and for failing to govern effectively. He also expressed disillusionment with Nawaz Sharif, stating that the issues in Balochistan are not in their hands, but are managed by GHQ.
Refusing to retract his resignation, Mengal said it was a personal and firm decision, and he would not retreat from it. He mentioned that if he had even a small hope in the current rulers, he would not have taken this step.
Mengal reflected on his past experience with PTI, where even on the issue of missing persons, they suggested meeting with DG ISI or core commanders, questioning the need for parliament if such meetings were necessary.
He concluded that the current power holders benefit from the Balochistan issue, whether through development, law and order, or smuggling. He lamented that those who benefit from the conflict are the ones who do not want the issue to be resolved and are now prominent representatives of the state, ready to do anything that ensures their positions are secured.
