Inflation Declined by 0.83% Last Month – Statistics Bureau Report
In February, the inflation rate slowed down more than the government’s estimates. On a yearly basis, inflation increased by 1.52%, whereas the government had predicted it to be between 2% and 3%.
According to the Federal Bureau of Statistics’ monthly report, inflation declined by 0.83% last month. In urban areas, inflation dropped by 1.8%, while in rural areas, it decreased by 1.1%. The average inflation rate from July to February stood at 5.85%.
Prices of Essential Goods Decreased
The report highlights that in the past month:
- Gram lentils and tea became 10% cheaper, while gram flour dropped by 9%.
- Wheat declined by 3%, mash lentils by 2.82%, and flour by 2.23%.
- Chicken, masoor and moong lentils, fish, and dairy products also saw price reductions.
- Fuel, transport services, construction materials, electricity, and stationery became cheaper as well.
Additionally,
- Tomato prices fell by 57%, while onions became 32% cheaper.
- Potatoes dropped by 20%, vegetables by 17%, and eggs by over 14%.
- However, fruits increased by 15%, sugar by 9.35%, and butter by 5.61%.
- Spices rose by 1.59%, while bakery items saw a 1.19% price increase.
Items That Became Expensive
According to the Statistics Bureau:
- Beverages declined by 1.16%, and honey became 1.12% cheaper.
- Edible oil, ghee, meat, rice, and ready-made food were among the items that saw a price hike.
- Powdered milk, housing-related services, doctor fees, and mechanical services also became more expensive.
