The phone was initially expected to hit store shelves earlier this week, but Google postponed the release, citing the need to inspect a component quality issue affecting a small number of Pixel 9a devices.
Today, Google provided further clarification on the delay, stating that a "passive component" in some units did not meet the company’s strict durability standards.
In electronics, passive components refer to parts that store, consume, or regulate electrical power without generating it. Examples include resistors, capacitors, and inductors.
Official Statement from Google
"Rumors and speculation regarding this delay are inaccurate. A passive component in Pixel 9a did not meet our strict quality standards for long-term durability. Instead of shipping affected units, we made the difficult decision to delay the launch and address the issue in a small number of devices.
"This process has now been completed, and we are moving forward with a new launch date."
