PTI Leader Alia Hamza Released from Central Jail Gujranwala After Long Imprisonment

PTI leader Alia Hamza, arrested in the May 9 vandalism case, has been released from Central Jail Gujranwala.

District and Sessions Judge of Gujranwala, Javed Iqbal, approved Alia Hamza’s bail in the May 9 vandalism case. The district judge issued the release order on July 31.

Notably, before her release from Central Jail Gujranwala, Alia Hamza received significant relief from the Lahore High Court. The court had prohibited her arrest in any new cases until August 29.

During the hearing at Lahore High Court regarding the prevention of her arrest in additional cases, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi presided over the session on the petition filed by Alia Hamza’s husband.

The court instructed the petitioner’s lawyer to submit bail bonds for Alia Hamza and ordered that no agency could arrest her without the court’s permission.

Subsequently, the Lahore High Court requested a report from the Attorney General at the next hearing.

It should be noted that Alia Hamza’s husband, Hamza Jameel, had filed a petition claiming that political cases were being filed against Alia Hamza. According to the petition, after securing bail in one case, she was implicated in another.

The petition requested the court to prevent her arrest in any new cases as she was already on bail in all current cases.

On July 31, the District and Sessions Court of Gujranwala granted post-arrest bail to Alia Hamza in the May 9 case.

On June 5, the special anti-terrorism court of Sargodha granted bail to PTI leaders Alia Hamza and Sanam Javed in three May 9 cases.

On March 27, the anti-terrorism court of Lahore approved bail for PTI worker Sanam Javed and PTI leader Alia Hamza in the arson case of Shadman police station on May 9.

On January 30, former MNA Alia Hamza’s bail application was approved in the Jinnah House attack case.

It is noteworthy that on May 9 last year, after Imran Khan's arrest from the Islamabad High Court premises in the Al-Qadir Trust case, PTI staged nationwide protests. During these protests, PTI supporters set fire to the office of the PML-N in Lahore’s Model Town on May 9 and targeted military, civil, and private properties, causing extensive damage. At least eight people were killed, and 290 were injured during the unrest.

Protesters also stormed the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore, known as Jinnah House, and breached a gate of the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Following these incidents, law enforcement agencies arrested 1,900 individuals involved in clashes, vandalism, and arson nationwide. Cases were filed against Imran Khan and other PTI leaders and workers.

In these cases, several female party workers, including Alia Hamza, Yasmin Rashid, Khadija Shah, and Sanam Javed, were also detained.
